Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a term used to describe and encompass multiple diagnoses, including inattentive and hyperactive subtypes. Pediatricians are one of the types of physicians who regularly provide help to families with pursuit of a diagnosis and exploration of treatment options. Pediatricians are among a number of healthcare providers who are able to complete a disability tax credit application. Medical and mental health sub-specialists, family physicians as well as some physiotherapists and occupational therapists also provide this service. It is not a service covered by MSP and therefore, a fee is charged for the professional time it takes to review your child’s chart and complete the application.

Even when recommended by a CYSN Worker, accountant, your child may not qualify for the DTC. Please review the application in detail and determine whether your child meets criteria BEFORE asking your doctor to complete the form. It is extremely helpful for you to provide examples of impairments and report the severity and impact of the illness for the doctor to complete the form.

Whether you refer to them as a GP, Family Doctor or Family Physician these critical primary care providers are essential to ensuring ongoing and timely care of all patients. Even with a pediatrician, your child requires a family doctor to take care of their primary care needs.
You can look at the list of Family Physicians in the BC College Directory to find who may be accepting new patients in your area. You can also specify preferred gender and language of practice.
